RE: Tree Mortality Funding: Private Landowner Assistance
The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in California released a notice on Friday that they are expanding their initiative to assist private forestland owners in addressing tree mortality and other drought-related damage to improve forest health. NRCS will provide financial assistance for landowners with dead and dying conifer forest trees in certain counties. Removing dead tree debris and other woody material will also help reduce the spread of invasive pests and reduce the threat of wildfire.
Landowners with dead trees on non-industrial private conifer forestlands in Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Fresno, Kern, Lake, Los Angeles, Madera, Mariposa, Nevada, Placer, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Tulare and Tuolumne counties may be eligible for financial assistance.
Funding is available through the NRCS Environmental Quality Incentives Program. For more information, please see the attached press release and visit the NRCS website.

Vacation Races, event company that produces half marathon races centered around breathtaking National Parks and Forest Service Lands, will be holding its Inaugural Yosemite Half Marathon around Bass Lake on October 8th.
The event will take place from 7:15 am to 10:30 am. During these hours there will be 2500 runners starting on 6S40 off Sky Ranch Rd and then coming down Beasore Rd and crossing onto Hwy 274 from Beasore Rd to The Pines. The road will be closed. North Shore Rd will be open but will have heavy runner traffic from The Pines to Recreation Point Campground. Traffic will continue to operate, but drivers should expect heavy delays.
If at all possible, please avoid vehicular traffic during these hours.
The event coordinators would like to express their apology for any inconvenience this may cause residents. “We are so grateful to the communities that allow us to put on these events. Without their cooperation it just wouldn’t be possible,” said Director of Race Operations Lyle Anderson.
“The town of Bass Lake has been so helpful and supportive, we really appreciate being allowed to run in their community. We’re sorry for any temporary inconvenience our event causes.”
Vacation Races operates this activity under a U.S. Forest Service special use permit with the Sierra National Forest.

All evacuation orders for the Serpa fire have been lifted.
Some streets nearby are restricted to residents only while mop up operations are being performed.
The fire started above Highway 41, across from Serpa Canyon near Veater Ranch, yesterday afternoon about 1:00 pm.
Air tankers dropped fire retardant and helicopters dropped water to restrict the fire from spreading across numerous ridges covered in dead Ponderosa pines trees.
We have no reports yet if any structures were lost.
Residents in nearby Mudge Ranch, Cavin Lane, and Road 420 areas were evacuated for quite some time. Thanks to the fire crews for their quick response and hard work.
